Event Accessibility

Moi International Airport (MBA) serves as the primary gateway, with direct flights from major African cities and international connections through Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO). Some international flights operate directly to Moi International Airport. Participants should verify routing with their travel agents. Those connecting through Nairobi must proceed to Domestic Terminal 1D.

Warm Tropical Weather

Mombasa will experience warm tropical weather during the congress period, with daytime temperatures reaching 28-29°C (82-84°F) and nighttime lows of 22-23°C (72-73°F). October typically sees light rainfall of approximately 37mm over 12-13 days with high humidity levels creating warm conditions. The region enjoys approximately 9 hours of bright sunshine daily. Participants should pack light, breathable clothing and consider bringing light rain protection. Travel

Visa & Travel Requirements

Electronic Travel Authorisation eTA

Before leaving their home country, participants should complete all formalities regarding entry and transit visas, which they may require for the journey to Kenya. Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) applications for Kenya should be submitted at least 3 days prior to travel to ensure adequate time for authorization.

Travelers’ can submit their applications up to three (3) months prior to travel. It is mandatory to submit your application using the Government’s official website: www.etakenya.go.ke/

Applications submitted via third-party websites will be automatically denied.

Participants are responsible for their own visas to enter Kenya, including transit visas (where applicable). The invitation letter issued can be used for visa application purposes. Participants requiring visas are advised to apply as early as possible to allow adequate processing time.

How to Apply

All visitors including infants and children who intend to travel to the Republic of Kenya must have an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before the start of their journey.

Required Documents

Before starting your application, ensure you have the following:

  • Valid passport (minimum 6 months validity with at least one blank page)
  • Selfie or passport-type photo
  • Contact details (email & phone number)
  • Travel itinerary (arrival & departure)
  • Accommodation booking confirmation
  • Conference: Invitation/participation letter

Processing time is typically three (3) working days, but it may take longer in some cases.

Health Requirements

Yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for all travellers. Malaria prophylaxis is recommended. Participants should consult their healthcare providers for current health advisories and requirements.

You are to arrange your own travel insurance prior to your travel.

Currency

The Kenyan Shilling (KES) serves as the official local currency. As of August 2025, the prevailing exchange rate is approximately KES 125-128 per US Dollar. US Dollars and Euros are commonly accepted forms of payment within tourist establishments and designated areas.

You can exchange money at many authorized banks (at the arrival airport) and bureau de change. Most banks in major cities have ATMs. Most major credit cards (MasterCard, American Express and VISA) are widely accepted. In addition to credit cards, it is advisable to carry easily exchangeable currency in cash.

English is the official language. Swahili is the national language.

Telecommunications & Internet

Kenya boasts multiple mobile phone providers, including Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom. SIM cards are readily accessible upon providing identification (ID/passport) for registration. Mombasa enjoys extensive 4G coverage, ensuring reliable connectivity. M-pesa, derived from “M” for mobile and “pesa” in Swahili for money, facilitates mobile transactions such as depositing, withdrawing, transferring money, and making payments for goods and services. Users can register for M-pesa at any Safaricom or Airtel Shop (located in malls), presenting their ID/passport. These services incur a small transactional fee. M-pesa is versatile, allowing users to pay for services ranging from taxis and supermarket purchases to restaurant meals and mobile credit top-ups.

Security

We are working closely together with the Kenyan Authorities to ensure that all precautionary measures are taken for participants’ safety and security at the event venue. However, participants are personally responsible for their movements. If you intend to stay in a hotel, you are advised to choose accommodation from the recommended list of hotels. Please take precautions when going out of the hotel, especially at night. While the hotel is fairly safe, it is not advisable to leave valuable items unattended, i.e., laptops, jewellery etc. Avoid walking on lonely streets or wearing flashy and/or expensive jewellery or watches, take a licensed taxi booked by the hotel and agree on fare in advance or you can use ride-hailing services (Uber and Bolt).
